Our History

  • Island Barn Reservoir Sailing Club has a long and well established history.  From our origins at Lavender's Pit with the name of Walton Upon Thames Sailing Club, moving to Island Barn Reservoir with the Club House opening in May 1973 through to acquiring the RYA RTC status in 2011 we have wonderful stories to tell.

Island Barn The Farm. The reservoir construction started  on 24th October 1908 and it opened on 4th November 1911.  The perimeter dam walls are 1 mile in circumference, covering an area of 122 acres and holding  9 million gallons of water. The reservoir was named after Island Barn that was demolished to make way for the reservoir.
