Laser Open October 2007
Following the recent closure of the club due to Foot and Mouth, restrictions were lifted just in time to allow the Open Meeting to take place.
Winds were light for the first race and competition close with much place changing throughout. John Reay led off the start line but Graham Lund, Rob Hardwick and David Goddard had spells in the lead. Finally Goddard broke clear to win from Lund with Reay third. Hardwick clung onto fourth despite having to do turns following an incident at the gybe mark.
With little more wind in the second race Reay made no mistake and led from start to finish. Goddard took second from Lund with John Peck in fourth.
The third race after lunch started with a promising light breeze and Rob Sumner lead round the first lap before Goddard and Lund got past on the run. The wind by then had dropped to nothing and the race was shortened with Goddard taking the win from Lund and Sumner.
With no sign of wind and the impending kick off of the England match the fleet headed for the club house and the race officer wisely decided to cancel any further racing.
David Goddard therefore took the Open Meeting from previous winners Reay and Lund and thanked the race officer and his team for running an excellent event at such short notice. Reay was first Master Catherine Whitehill from Papercourt took first Youth.
