Bart's Bash on Sunday 21st Sept

< Back
  • Ever felt the buzz of mass participation events??? Now you can take part in one at Island Barn Reservoir. The biggest race in the history of sailing takes place on Sunday 21st September and IBRSC is proud to take part. On this date many tens of thousands of sailors around the world will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest ever sailing race whilst at the same time raising money for The Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation.

Suffice to say there are some hoops that the Club has to jump through to qualify our event but that need not concern anyone reading this. Most importantly all sailors wishing to participate must sign up.

The above link goes straight to the IBRSC page on the event website where you can register as a participant, sign up to the IBRSC event and add your name to the many thousands already signed up worldwide. Online registrations close on the evening of 19th September but entries will be taken on the day.

At IBRSC the race will start at 11am and will take the form of the usual Anniversary Series race with Gold and Silver fleet starts. Normal IBRSC Sailing Instructions for Club Racing will apply (to be read in conjunction with the Event Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions). Following the special Bart's Bash race there will be the usual 2 back to back races.

There will be a "voluntary" entry fee of £5 per person for the Bart's Bash race, taken on the day. All entry fees will go direct to The Andrew Simpson Sailing Federation. As this is a fundraising event you may wish to "volunteer" a higher entry fee or you may wish to raise additional funds from sponsors. There are details of how to do this on the event website.

Every registered participant's result will be uploaded to a global Bart's Bash database and some clever people are going to produce an overall result, so you will be able to see how you faired against Ben Ainslie, who incidentally is sailing an RS400 at Queen Mary.

This should be the most amazing event, held in the memory of a great olympian, so sign up now.
