2013 Wednesday Series Starts

< Back
  • Wednesday Evening Sailing Is Not Always Like This

Summer is fast approaching and so it is that this Wednesday, 24th April is the start of the evening racing.

For those that have not joined in before, the Wednesday Evening Handicap Series is one of our most popular racing series with a big variety of boats on the water and hot food after racing. It is a both a Handicap series (called the ‘Scratch Series‘) and a Personal Handicap series that unsurprisingly uses peoples Personal PY, which can be found on the noticeboard and the website here. The aim of the Personal Handicap Series is to try and reward the sailors who improve the most during the season, which typically means that the front-runners are very different to the usual suspects.

Last season we had 54 competitors taking part and the winners were:

    Scratch Series

    1. Gareth Griffiths (Solo)

    2. Mike & Sophie Storey (National 12)

    3. Mike Curtis & Julie Harrison (RS400)

    Personal Series

    1. Ian Cleaver & Claire Overstall (RS200)

    2. Graham Potter & Chris Golding (Albacore)

    3. Cj Cavallari (Solo)

The only condition for entry is that competitors must volunteer at least once to do Wednesday Race and Club duty. Please volunteer on the Duty Noticeboard (to the right of the kitchen as you look to the back of the clubhouse), where there are some A4 sheets with the dates on. The earlier you sign up the more choice you get - some weeks have already gone!

The racing starts at 7:28pm and there are 3 starts; Slow Handicap, Laser and Fast Handicap.

Slow Handicap - All boats of Club PY greater than or equal to 1055 (this includes the Laser 4.7)

Laser - For Lasers and Laser Radials (not including Laser 4.7)

Fast Handicap - All boats of Club PY less than 1055

The Club PY for a class can be found here
