  • Our RYA Powerboat and First Aid Courses are outlined below.

    The RYA National Sailing Scheme provides a structured approach to learning power boating. A series of courses enable you to move from complete beginner to expert in a controlled, safe and fun environment.
    Island Barn Reservoir Sailing Club is a fully accredited RYA Training Centre with Dinghy and Power boating Courses for people of all ages and abilities. The large 122 acres of open water is used exclusive for sailing. We offer a great way to learn to sail in a fun and friendly environment - and the next logical step is to join in with the club activities from then on.
    Our team of RYA qualified instructors and range of boats mean we can offer several aspects of the RYA syllabus for both adults and junior sailors.



    RYA PB2 Powerboat Level 2RYA Powerboat Level 2
    Members only course.
    Minimum age is 16 years

    Cost £45 (amazing value for money)

    This course provides the skills and background knowledge needed to drive a powerboat. This formal qualification is a requirement to drive a power boat at IBRSC.  We strongly advise all new members to take this course to ensure safety on the reservoir.
    The course will be an introduction to basic powerboat skills including launching and recovery, boat handling, securing to a buoy, anchoring, leaving and coming alongside, man overboard. The focus is on low speed close quarters handling, an introduction to driving at planing speed and collision avoidance. By the end of the course you will be a self-sufficient powerboater with awareness of your ability, limitations and those of the craft. You will be able to use a power boat at IBRSC.

    RYA SAFETY BOATRYA Safety Boat
    Members only course and must have held a PB2 qualification for 1 year.
    Minimum age is 16 years

    This course provides the skills required when acting as an escort craft, safety boat or coach boat for a fleet of dinghies, windsurfers or canoes, for racing or training activities, including rescue techniques and elements of race management and mark laying.
    The course will include preparation, boat handling, dinghy rescue, windsurfer rescue, kayak or canoe rescue, towing, end-of-day procedures, safety, suitability of craft, local factors, communication, rescuing other water users. By the end of the course you will be able to provide safety cover for a wide range of on-the-water activities.
