Sail for Gold Saturday 21 July
It would be helpful to get some idea of numbers for the SAIL FOR GOLD event on Sat July 21 – we would like to see as many boats on the water as we can. Let’s set a record to be tested in future years...
The programme will be:
11:00 – 12:30 ROUND THE ISLAND – this will operate like Grand Prix qualifying – the fastest (on handicap) qualifying lap wins. We’ll have spot prizes for different categories depending on the number of entrants. (For example fastest in a club boat)
Round the island is really simple - open to EVERYONE
Simply sail CLOCKWISE round outside every mark starting and finishing when you cross the line between mark F and the clubhouse (yellow mark with a flag on the top outside the clubhouse) any time during qualifying. Your lap will timed and handicap results calculated. We’ll try have the handicap results for these on the big screen during the qualifying.

Afternoon starting about 2 pm – TEAM RACING
Two HELM teams – PLEASE START FORMING TEAMS and TELL ME. Single-handers – note that you do not need to find a crew – we will do that for you.
HELMS only – we are asking the more advanced juniors to crew.
(No problem if a pair of Junior HELMS want to enter, but they must have ADULT crews – we can find crews on the day if necessary).
This will be on very short courses in front of the clubhouse in Visions and/or Feva depending on weather and numbers or participants. Each team will be TWO HELMS with a simple triangle course and the scoring is basically last boat loses there is a one point penalty for last place. 1,2,3,5. To exonerate from a rules infringement we will use 360 not 720 (short races). The races will be very short because we will need to get lots of races in.
Please let me know if you would like to participate in the team racing (if you know your partner tell me, if you don’t but like the idea still tell me).
If I have some idea on numbers I can set up a suitable schedule.
I will need a few volunteers to help on the day – if you could, please let me know. I’m hoping that with a bit or creative shift work volunteers can still take part in the events as we supplement the duty team.
