RS400 Blog

  • 7 April 2021 - 4 400s (Ian P and Mike B, Paul Browning and Sel, Douglas Clow and Ian Hamilton, and Harry Phelps and Lucy) turned up for a sail in the lovely conditions, accompanied by Andy in a Blaze and Elinor in an Aero 5.

We soon organised an impromptu race with a gate start.  Course was start at 3, beat to F, close reach to 8, run to 4, then marginal spinnaker run to 3.  In the first Paul got away cleanly with a good lead and held this to the end of 2 laps, with Douglas and Ian close behind followed by Harry then Ian P.

The second race was even closer, with Paul, Ian H, and Harry all going left off the start, Ian P went right and arrived at the first mark marginally ahead.  In the downwind leg, Harry and Paul managed to get ahead, with Paul eventually leading at the finish after 1 lap.

A great evening of very close racing, demonstrating what fun these boats are to sail.  Already planning to make this a regular fixture prior to formal racing commencing.  Please turn up on Wednesdays on the water by 6.30.
