At Island Barn Reservoir Sailing Club we have a very long established tradition of teach sailing in a fun and safe environment. We offer two main training routes for Adults:
TrySail
Our RYA Levels 1 and 2 beginners course for adults. This course is run on Tuesdays evenings over May and June each year. The course syllabus covers learning to sail in single and multi hander dinghies. It is suitable for novices or those who have a little sailing experience.
Start Racing and Intermediate Racing
These are adult courses. Start racing is suitable for those who have completed TrySail or have a RYA level 1 and 2 qualification or equivalent. The course syllabus covers the basics of racing in dinghies, the basic racing rules, how club races work, starting races and general skills improvements. It runs on Saturday mornings in May.
Intermediate racing is aimed at improving skills for those who have completed Start racing or for club sailors who want a few tps to improve their racing skills. The course includes more advances sail controls, race tactics, strategy and of course more sailong skills development.
Both courses use a similar format, starting at 10:00 ready to saill, teaching sessions in the morning followed by joining the club races in the afternoon (with on the water coaching during the cub races).
