19th March 2020
As you are no doubt aware, the current Coronavirus pandemic is asking all of us to review the activities that only a few weeks ago we took for granted. This evening, the committee met over a conference call to discuss the Club’s approach to sailing activities. We reviewed the advice from the UK Government, the RYA and other sporting bodies. With a very heavy heart, we have agreed to close the club for a period of at least two weeks. At this point, the advice from the Government is changing so rapidly we will convene on Thursday April 2nd to review this decision.
The Club’s closure extends to the following:
No sailing activities (either organised club sailing or members sailing outside of normal hours using the two boat rule)
No training activities on or off the water at the sailing club
No access to the clubhouse (we will be speaking to the cleaners asking them to access and clean the club if they are able to)
Members wishing to come to the club to collect their boats are welcome to access the club for this purpose.
We are very keen to start sailing as soon as we can but we ask all members to follow these rules and help us in our efforts to do our bit to overcome this virus.
Ben Kimbell is looking at how we can support training activities via online courses for those who will no doubt now have spare time at home.
Finally, I thank you for your cooperation and I wish you and your family well over the forthcoming weeks.
