  • RYA Training Centre - Island Barn Reservoir Sailing Club

    Island Barn Reservoir Sailing club is a Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Recognised Training Centre which means that we can offer certified tuition and nationally recognised qualifications in Sailing and Powerboating.  RYA qualifications are known and respected the world over. We have been trained and assessed by Royal Yachting Association to ensure that we meet the RYA standards of competence, training and safety.

    As an accredited school (training centre) we can teach and examine the following sailing courses:

    Start Racing
    Intermediate Racing

    RYA Assistant Instructor

    In addition to these we can teach and examine the following powerboat courses:
    Powerboat Level 2 (PB2)
    Safety boat

    Certificates are awarded to those candidates that have achieved the criteria, standard and time, required by the RYA.

    By using our training centre that is RYA accredited you can be assured that your instructors and the boats upon which you are taught are appropriately qualified and of the proper specification. In addition, the highest levels of safety are maintained at the sailing club as specified by the RYA.

    All of our instructors hold a valid RYA Senior Instructor (SI), RYA Dinghy Instructor (DI) or RYA Assistant Instructor (AI) qualification. Our Senior and Dinghy Instructors all posses valid first aid qualifications, hold either a Powerboat 2 or safety boat qualification and have completed the RYA Safeguarding Course (Safe and Fun). .

    Our courses are properly documented, and they have been approved by the RYA. We have carefully prepared Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). These include detailed risk assessments and health and safety considerations for all aspects of the club and the protection of our instructors, members, visitors and students.

    The RYA training provided by accredited RYA schools is recognised throughout the world be that to progress from beginner to Olympian sailor or simply for the fun of learning our sport in a safe and fun environment.
