Club sailing will start at 11:15am on November 11 to commemorate the signing of the armistice between the Allies and Germany at 11am on November 11, 1918.
There will be a two minute silence held to mark the occasion - on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month - and remember those killed in the two World Wars and the 12,000 British servicemen killed or injured since 1945.
For those new to the club this is a long held tradition. We get everything ready – changed, boats rigged, course set, if possible duty team gets start line laid and cttee boat left anchored, but we do NOT launch sailing and at 11:00 we gather for a minutes silence in front of the clubhouse.
After than we rush to get on the water as quickly as possible with the start sequence as soon as we can – probably about 11:15 start of the sequence.
This means the pm series will also be a little later probably more like 12:30 not 12:00 first race, but with no sailing school we have plenty of time.
