Week 10... Print E-mail

I'm very short of time this week: feel free to add comments to provide some sort of report...

It was a nice sunny evening, with a decent breeze at launching time that tended to ease off a bit, buit still very pleasant conditions...

Dickon Maclean won for the second week running, followed by Carl Mayhew, both in 200s, and then Pettit, Pearson and Smith in Lasers. Mike Storey rounded up the top 6 in his EPS.

The personal handicap went to Ian Hamilton again, then John Smith, Clare James, John Magrath, Dave Baldwin and 6th Alasdair Maclean. Alasdair selected the club National 12 as his personal mount for the evening, presumably to keep me on my toes, as its yet another handicap to fill in, plus we had to research the class age handicap for a 1979 boat...

Results here, as ever, and dinner was delicious: Chicken in herbs, real potatos and various green vegatables...

This was a course we've had before, the big rectangle with an inserted beat to X and back to F but this time with no hook finish! This was probably the windiest Wed. so far and it was nice to use all the water but not so good being tied to F. It gets very cramped behind the line with only one boat at a time able to come in on starboard past the IDM. In a Southerly or Northerly the Clubhouse messes the wind up at the start. I only had one Solo (Tom) to worry about up the beat but the Lasers seemed to catch him and close on me rather quickly - it looked like their optimum wind strength. Later on, not wanting to be a spoilsport by getting too far ahead, I started the long beat instead of the short one and crew Chris was too trusting to point this out so we all seemed a lot closer together by the finish. The starting sequence, much tweaked by all Sailing Committees, certainly now does the job in most conditions so everyone sails in the same wind even if a few do a lap less. Jim had pangs of conscience about whether he too had gone wrong on the 2 beats and missed one out so honourably retired. Perhaps best not to start 2 beats at close adjacent marks.
