Adult Training - TrySail Print E-mail

If you are an adult and would like to 'have a go' at sailing without the committment of a longer course, then our Tuesday Trysail is for you. (We run separate sessions for juniors)

Tuesday nights have always been beginner and cruising nights at IBRSC, a perfect antidote for a day in the office jungle. There's no racing, just a laid-back structured training programme, a chance to try sailing at a low cost. The complete 15 week course costs £75, that's just £5 per session!  Alternatively we offer a £10 fee on a pay as you turn up basis. Plus of course the water is open for any members who just want to go for a sail. The objectives of the Tuesday trysail course are:

- To have fun!

- To get people into sailing

- To get people so hooked on sailing at IBRSC that they join the club

(join the club and we'll refund half the course fees against the membership fee)

- To have the club open for fun sailing without worrying about racing

- To increase the bar takings!

The Tuesday Trysail training course runs from mid May to early August every year. W will restart in May 2012. If you would like to register an interest for the 2012 season, get in touch using the contact us form.

A full training schedule and calendar is available here

Tuesday evenings are for all members (adults and supervised children) and for ADULT (over 18) guests only. Non-member children are catered for at our Sunday afternoon sessions. Non-sailing spectators are most welcome, but please keep a close eye on children and don't bring dogs.

Guests are welcome from about 1845 each Tuesday evening, session starts at 1900 and we sail until dusk. There's an end-of-training chat at about 2130. Each evening we will provide talks, help and lots of sailing, initially with experienced sailors in Enterprises, and then on your own as you get more confident. This is not a registered scheme so no RYA certificates, just an intro to sailing at a low cost. That said, we do follow a plan and will teach you to sail without you even noticing, and those who stick with us can aim for the exclusive 'IBRSC Certificate of Achievement', available nowhere else on the planet!

What do I need?

Please bring:
  • - Warm scruffy clothing, with shoes that don't mind getting wet. Tracksuit topped by cagoule, with trainers, are ideal. Long hair should be tied back and please don't wear jewellery. Footwear should be closed-in: definitely no flip flops.
  • - A towel and a complete change of clothes, in case of a soaking.
  • - Money!

IBRSC will loan you a buoyancy aid. If you wear specs, please bring some string or a cord to secure them on your head. Leave valuable items and non-waterproof watches at home.

If you'd like a more formal RYA course, please see our RYA Training pages.
