The Boats We Allow at IBRSC Print E-mail

Like all sailing clubs, some things are better suited to the Island Barn facilities than others, and so we have to make a few rules to ensure everyone has fun in safety. We wouldn't want you buying a boat that runs out of water in 10 seconds or won't fit through the gates!

A boat is allowed at IBRSC as long as it meets the following criteria:
  1. It must be a monohull (that means not keelboat (no moorings) or catamaran (too wide)). HOWEVER the RYA say that the Laser Vortex is a monohull and so we allow it at IBRSC.
  2. It goes through the water gates and down the launch ramps without falling through. This allows most things with the exception of heavy Wayfarers or similar, and wide B14s.
  3. Has one or no trapezes. After experimenting with twin-trapeze, we find that it really is too much, particularly for handicap racing where the big blind spot behind the spinnaker is dangerous for smaller boats. Plus these boats really need more space than our 'mere' 122 acres.
  4. If you have any queries about whether your boat will suit, please ask any member of the committee or send us an e-mail. The rules can be and have changed if consider safe.
  5. We welcome all boats that fit the above criteria, so feel free to sail whatever suits you.
