The Flags

To understand the starting sequences first each sailor should familirise themselves with the flags used to signal the start for thier fleet/class:

 

Flag Fleet / Class

solo start flag Solo
rs200 start flag

RS200

Only used for RS200 open events

Topper & RS Feva
Slow Handicap (Wed)

Only used if more than 3 boats of this class entered or at Topper / RS Feva open events

handicap start flag

Handicap (Sun)
Fast handicap (Wed)

Includes RS200, Topper and RS Feva when not sailing with thier own start flag 

 

One other flag used at the start is the Blue Peter.

Blue Peter

This flag is raised 2 minutes before the start of the first fleet/class race and lowered with the start of the last fleet/class race

 

Raising and Lowering of the flags

The General rule for all starts except pursuit races is:

Time Flag Gun / Hooter
4 minutes before a class start class flag raised sounded once
At the start class flag lowered sounded once

 

Combining each of the above flag sequences:

Start sequence for the second, forth and fith Sundays of each month Start sequence for the third Sunday of each month
