Thames Valley and Southern open was held on a glorious day. Very warm, not a cloud in the sky but with a fickle force 1 to 4 southerly wind blowing in all directions. 12 home boats and 9 visitors made the start line for the first of 4 testing races. After much place changing Mike Wilkie[4190] won from Godfrey Clark[4120 with Ian Ayres[4220] third. Race two was won by Will Loy[3171] with Mike Wilkie second and Godfrey Clark third. A leisurely lunch was taken before racing was resumed for the afternoon. Conditions were much the same as the morning with the wind as unpredictable as ever. Race three was won by Rob Vincent[4109] with Godfrey Clark second and K Smith[4287] third. There was a slight increase in the wind for the final race which predictably produced one capsize. First was Godfrey Clark, Second Rob Vincent and Arthur Phillips[3854] third. After one discard results were as below.
Will Loy is notable for the fact that he borrowed an old boat that morning and was the first home boat which earned him a bottle of wine as well as his prize. Well done. Thanks to the IBRSC sailors who staffed the day and all the sailors for their enthusiastic participation.
