TrySail/TryRace Race evening

< Back
  • Time flies when you are having fun! I can't believe that we've got to the end of another year's TrySail and TryRace. As usual we finished with the race evening where we combine try sail and try race to put everything we've learned together.

A simple triangle course with a club start sequence. The wind was enough to cause a few palpitations and one or two brief dips but the race began with a competetive start from the Try Race fleet and many Try Sail quite close to the line. The gusty wind was clearly making it hard for some of the trysail to progress up the beat. However slowly but surely more and more boats started gaining ground upwind and everyone worked their way round the course.  Some progress was faster than others and getting over the finish line proved tricky but all that tacking practice started to pay off and everyone got round the course.

A short second race of just one lap was notable for the Elinor in her topper making the best start of the night and staying ahead of her dad a in a laser for most of the race.

Results are here - a great job by everyone with the extra year or two's experience from the TryRace fleet showing in the top places, but TrySail also showing how well they can now sail round a course. I look forward to seeing some of you next year for TryRace.

The evening rounded off with another ge=reat meal and sharing of stories in the clubhouse.
